Neurodivergent Doctor on Square Peg Round Whole Podcast

Colourful neurodivergent pride badges lined up in a row. They have words like “autistic” and “proudly disabled” and “ADHD Brain” on them.

I do not enjoy doing interviews.

But when Lou Kouchel asked me to go on Square Peg Round Whole podcast I said yes straightaway!

Lou is a powerful advocate for neurodivergent disabled kids in Australian schools. I really admire her determination and innovative thinking. She wants to totally change the way schools “manage behavior” of kids who think differently (check out this petition), and I think she’ll succeed. Her other guests have included Dr Ross Greene (author of The Explosive Child), Dr Mona Delahooke, and Dr Melanie Heyworth, founder of Reframing Autism.

Lou made the interview process accessible to me by providing me questions ahead of time so I could script. She embraced my infodumping and was so reassuring. I wouldn’t say I’d jump at doing more podcasts... but I like that it makes info accessible to people who do better with auditory than visual inputs.

It was such a wonderful episode and I just loved hearing your voice Sarah. I especially love your understanding of the similarities between the struggles in the aged care sector for dementia care and the difficulties in education for neurodivergence. You’re input was so encouraging and hopeful. Thank you for taking the leap to an auditory format despite being more comfortable with written communication ❤️
